SUBJECT: Tuesday, March 17, 2020 Main Meeting Canceled Due to COVID-19, the Coronavirus.

Hello CREIANC Members and Guests,

CREIANC realizes there is a lot of fear, confusion, and even panic in our country and the world with the coronavirus. We all need to practice the safe hygiene techniques that the CDC and other health organizations are suggesting, including not going out if you are sick or have been around sick people, etc. At this point we are grateful that WNC currently has no known cases. Currently across the state of North Carolina there are 32 cases of COVID-19 — the disease caused by the novel coronavirus — and zero deaths. With an overabundance of caution and concern for the safety of our members, volunteers and general public, CREIANC Board announces the canceling of the Tuesday, March 17, 2020 Main Meeting.

As you’ve probably heard, North Carolina, Gov. Roy Cooper Saturday, March 14, 2020 announced an executive order to stop mass gatherings of more than 100 people. He also directed that K-12 public schools across the state close for at least two weeks, beginning March 16. That puts the kibosh on our main meetings that often attract more than 100 attendees. We do not want to take a chance. Your well-being and safety are too important. And, we do not know, what we don’t know. There may be those among us that while symptom free, unknowingly are infected and carriers of the virus. As board member Catherine Bradley states, “That is the conundrum we face, acting definitively early in order to flatten the curve of contagion, and perhaps if WNC doesn’t get hit hard, is it because nothing really happened Or, did we help minimize the spread?” So, no, there’s no live Tuesday, March 17, 2020 main meeting.

Regarding the smaller focus groups, it is up to each group leader. I have spoken to all those who have scheduled meetings in March. Here is where we are.

  • Thursday, March 19, New Member Meeting and Beginning Investors/Case Study Meetings: Leader Emillie Christi Leon says YES, at this time both will be held as scheduled at Happy Cinco De Mayo Restaurant.
  • Wednesday, March 25, Multifamily Focus Group: Leaders Richard Coyne and Bill Zahller say YES, at this time the meetup will be held as scheduled at Happy Cinco De Mayo Restaurant.
  • Tuesday, March 31, Henderson County Focus Group: Leader Tom Boyd says the meeting is CANCELED.

Keep checking the calendar for the most up to date information as things change quickly.

The restaurant assures us that they have lots of anti-viral systems and resources in place. Just stay home if you or anyone in your family is sick, please…!

Update: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Sunday, March 15, 2020 called for the cancellation of in-person events of 50 or more people for the next eight weeks to try to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. We will do our best to keep you updated.

What Comes Next?  At the same time, we’re very aware that our members need to be prepared for what might come next - a recession where bargains abound, laid-off tenants have trouble paying rent, rehabs might not sell in the timeframe you’d like them to…

But as Pete Fortunato says, “In Chaos, There’s Opportunity”

While we didn’t expect this recession to be caused by a world-wide pandemic, we DID expect a possible recession, and we’re well-prepared to continue to educate you over the following months about the topics you need to know about to grab this opportunity, while it lasts.

Through online meetings, simulcast meetings, and recorded meetings, we’ll fill you in on:

  • How to figure out what to pay for properties when the market is declining
  • What to do if you’re a private lender, and your borrowers can’t pay you
  • What to do if you’re a borrower with a rehab that won’t sell
  • How to work with tenants who can’t pay

And everything else you need to know to make the economic chaos of the next 12 months work to your family’s advantage. Members create an account at CREIANC.org making sure to provide valid and updated email, physical address and other information so we can send communication about these offerings.

Your Physical Health is Most Important to Us, But Your Financial Health Runs a Close Second.

Like everyone else, we’re in flux as local and world events and information continue to change daily. CREIANC stays committed to doing our part to delay the spread of coronavirus, while at the same time meeting our commitment to you, our members, to make sure you get the most actionable, up-to-date information available to make sure that if you’re able to protect and grow your real estate business during this chaotic, and opportunity-filled, time.

Remember to watch for emails and other communication letting you know how to log onto online or simulcast meetings held via Zoom, smaller networking gatherings, and a wide range of other opportunities to get the knowledge you need while staying safe and keeping others safe, as well.

Take care of yourselves, and each other—
